About River Road TMS
Bringing Advanced TMS Treatment to Richmond
At River Road TMS, LLC, we believe the goal of depression treatment should be full remission -not just partial relief. Too often, patients tell us, “I’m better than I used to be, but not great,” or “I’m still not my old self.” That’s not good enough. Our mission is to help people feel joy again and to fully engage in life.
I started referring patients out for transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy many years ago and was amazed by the results. Patients were telling me how much better they felt and shared their excitement that TMS treatment did not result in unwanted side effects like medications. Even better, I was observing that TMS was helping patients stay well.
I am always struck by how many patients who have suffered with severe depression haven’t been told about TMS as an option. I educate patients early on about TMS as a treatment option. Why wait until someone has failed multiple drug trials, endured side effects, and lost precious time in life being depressed? The APA 2010 Practice Guideline for the Treatment of Patients with Major Depression recommends using TMS after a patient fails to respond to standard antidepressant therapy, effectively categorizing it as a second-line treatment for Major Depressive Disorder.
Patients would often decline a referral for TMS therapy because they did not want to travel to another part of town for TMS and/or they did not want to start working with another psychiatric provider. After I heard this time and again, I decided to bring TMS to them.
At River Road TMS, our goal is not only to be a leading provider of TMS in Richmond, but also to expand awareness and access to this life-changing treatment. What sets our practice apart is our strong collaboration with other providers. With patient permission, we regularly communicate with referring clinicians and care team members through midpoint updates, completion letters, and direct phone consultation when needed.
Our team is dedicated to combining cutting-edge depression treatment with compassionate, personalized care—because you and your loved ones deserve to feel all the way better, not just a little better.
